1898. VS is formed by the amalgamation of four school-furniture manufacturers, amongst them the companies Ramminger & Stetter in Tauberbischofsheim and P.J. Müller in Berlin, holders of the pioneering Rettig-desk patent.
1905. In close cooperation with the architects R. Riemerschmid and Bruno Paul as well as the “Werkbund” (an organisation concerning itself with good design and workmanship, functionalism and value for money), VS develops the first comprehensively designed school furniture.
1910. At the World’s Fair in Brussels, VS exhibits a classroom that satisfies the design aims of the “Werkbund”.
1924. VS opens its new factory on the outskirts of Tauberbischofsheim, which to this day remains the company’s headquarters.
1945. The radical changes after the Second World War also impact on school furniture. The rigid school bench is pushed into the background as more flexible solutions are sought after.
